Softball Recap: Union Area's Undefeated Season over After Four Games

Union Area fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Neshannock on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 6-4. The Scotties haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Mia Preuhs put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over ten innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Olivia Benedict was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Union Area fell to 3-1. As for Neshannock, the victory was the 29th in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Area will take on Chartiers-Houston at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Union Area 3.8, Chartiers-Houston 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Neshannock, they will challenge Laurel at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Laurel has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.4 runs per game on average), something Neshannock will no doubt try to take advantage of.
