Softball Game Preview: Fullerton Indians vs. Esperanza Aztecs

The Fullerton Indians will take on the Esperanza Aztecs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fullerton has four straight wins, Esperanza has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Fullerton's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Kennedy 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since April 2nd.

The result came thanks to Katelynn Mathews's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Abby Lee was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Esperanza didn't have quite enough to beat Canyon on Thursday and fell 5-3. That's two games in a row now that the Aztecs have lost by exactly two runs.

Julia Ireland made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Fullerton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Esperanza, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
