Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Kewanee

Kewanee extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping them up to 9-4. Everything went their way against the Mendota Trojans as they made off with an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Boilermakers, who have now won four contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Kewanee got a great performance from Kalleigh Gale as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, Gale is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Addy Yepsen was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025. Rylee Blades was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Kewanee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Mendota, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Mendota's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Laurali Thompson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kewanee will head out to take on AlWood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mendota, they will venture away from home to face off against Rochelle at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hubs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.45 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
