Basketball Recap: Central Falls Comes Up Short

Central Falls lost against North Providence back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Central Falls Warriors took a 69-52 bruising from the North Providence Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Cougars are ranked fourth).

When it comes to explaining why Central Falls lost, don't look at Jamilson De Pina Almeida. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 boards. De Pina Almeida is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games he's played. Leandro Rojas Vargas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Central Falls smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Central Falls' record is now 4-10. As for North Providence, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Falls will challenge St. Patrick Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Falls is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.9 points per game this season. As for North Providence, they will square off against Pilgrim at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Providence knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Pilgrim likes a good challenge.
