Softball Recap: Springstead Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Springstead can now relate to. They fell just short of the Wesley Chapel Wildcats by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Alivia Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, ElleAnn Cephus was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

Springstead moved to 19-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Wesley Chapel, they pushed their record up to 20-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Springstead does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wesley Chapel, they will take on Gainesville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.1, the Purple Hurricanes 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
