Volleyball Recap: Maryvale Extends Winning Streak to Five

Maryvale had already won four in a row and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They blew past the South Mountain Jaguars 3-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-0 two weeks ago.

While Maryvale won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.

Justin Gaxiola paced Maryvale's offense, picking up 11 kills. Gaxiola got some help from Jhonthan Garcia and his 17 assists. Garcia also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Sebastian Cabrales Morales, racking up two apiece.

Maryvale pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for South Mountain, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maryvale will host Metro Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for South Mountain, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Central at 6:00 p.m. The Jaguars are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
