Football Recap: Lutheran-Northeast Comes Up Short

Lutheran-Northeast had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it eight. They took a blow against the Plainview Pirates, falling 78-8. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Pirates are ranked 12th).

Despite the loss, Lutheran-Northeast still got an impressive performance from Charlie Sullivan, who rushed for 78 yards and one score, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 68 yards.

As for Plainview, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. That 70 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

Plainview got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gage Walton out in front who rushed for 55 yards and three TDs on only five carries. Walton is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kobe Maertins, who rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown.

Lutheran-Northeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Plainview, they will challenge Alma at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will be up against the Cardinals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.14 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
