Softball Recap: Pleasant Grove Takes Down Westlake in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pleasant Grove had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Westlake Thunder. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Thunder: they've now won seven in a row.

Keslie Draney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Draney was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Mary Severe was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyson Young, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 24-7. As for Westlake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-9.

Coming up, Pleasant Grove will take on Mountain Ridge at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sentinels have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. Westlake does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
