Sequoia Charter extends road losing streak to five

Recap: Sequoia Charter Stallions vs. ASU Prep Poly

The Sequoia Charter Stallions suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 65-30 loss at the hands of ASU Prep Poly. While losing is never fun, Sequoia Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while ASU Prep Poly is ranked 84th).

Several Stallions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jack Roehl, who scored 14 points. That was a full 46.7% of Sequoia Charter's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Asher Roehl was another key contributor, scoring five points.

ASU Prep Poly was led to victory by Aidan Collins and CJ Welcome. Collins dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Welcome scored 12 points along with four steals. Welcome is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ashton Turner, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Sequoia Charter bumped their record down to 3-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for ASU Prep Poly, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.

Sequoia Charter will be playing at home against Empower College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for ASU Prep Poly, they will head out on the road to take on Mission Heights Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mission Heights Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Wednesday.
