Softball Recap: Queen Creek Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Queen Creek entered their tilt with Gilbert on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 10-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Alexis Mendez tossed a big game, striking out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charli Dixon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Alessia Velazquez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Queen Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert only posted an OBP of .250.

Queen Creek's win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Gilbert, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Queen Creek will welcome Red Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Gilbert, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mountain Pointe at 3:45 p.m. The Tigers are facing the Pride at the right time seeing as the Pride are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
