Basketball Recap: Shelby-Rising City Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

If Hampton wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Shelby-Rising City, they should've done a better job of containing Taya Pinneo. The Shelby-Rising City Huskies snuck past the Hampton Hawks with a 37-33 win on Monday thanks in part to Pinneo, who posted 18 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Shelby-Rising City's points.

Hampton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Gilmore, who put up 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Gilmore is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. Kynleigh Joseph was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.

Shelby-Rising City's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-12. As for Hampton, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Shelby-Rising City will square off against Nebraska Christian on February 4th. Shelby-Rising City has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Hampton, they will take on Palmer at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th.
