Basketball Game Preview: Saint Andrew's Scots vs. Somerset Prep

Saint Andrew has gone 5-0 against Somerset Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Saint Andrew's Scots will venture away from home to face off against Somerset Prep at 7:00 p.m. Saint Andrew's knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matchups -- so hopefully Somerset Prep likes a good challenge.

Saint Andrew's is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Benjamin: they outscored them in every quarter. Saint Andrew's got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brendan Gerard out in front who went 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists. Those eight steals gave Gerard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander Gerard, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Somerset Prep came up short against Doral Academy back in December of 2024 and fell 57-47. While losing is never fun, Somerset Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 569th, while Doral Academy is ranked 171st).

Somerset Prep dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Saint Andrew's, their win bumped their record up to 15-1.

Everything came up roses for Saint Andrew's against Somerset Prep in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the squad secured an 84-52 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saint Andrew's since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
