Baseball Recap: Elyria's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elyria). They came out on top against the Fostoria Redmen by a score of 8-5 on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Pioneers as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Maurice Stone and Ryan Chavalia made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Stone tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Chavalia struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Elyria: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-9 otherwise. At the plate, Stone went 2-for-3 with one run and one double, while Chavalia went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Stone a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cody Stipe, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

Elyria picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-10. As for Fostoria, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Elyria beat the Redmen by a score of 13-3 later that day.
