Cate put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their defense stepped up to hand the Cabrillo Conquistadores a 2-0 shutout. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Conquistadores are ranked 778th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

George Marin and Lucas Huiner scored both of Cate's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 22 goals.

Cate pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 27 goals over those four contests. As for Cabrillo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6-2 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cate will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thacher at 3:00 p.m. on January 14, 2025. Cate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 5.9 goals per game this season. Cabrillo and Atascadero will compete for holiday cheer at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
