Basketball Recap: Fillipe Frangie's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mitchell over Sunlake

Mitchell suffered their closest defeat since December 4, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Sunlake Seahawks by a score of 77-74. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-57 back in December of 2024.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Fillipe Frangie, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Frangie is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christopher Stoddart, who went 9 for 14 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Mitchell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive contests.

Christopher Murray continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sunlake, going 7 of 10 to rack up 23 points and seven assists. That's the most assists Murray has posted since back in November of 2024. Nelson Marshall was another key player, going 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points.

Mitchell dropped their record down to 12-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Sunlake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Mitchell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 73-52 win against Land O' Lakes on the 30th. As for Sunlake, they have also already played their next contest, a 60-58 defeat against Wesley Chapel on the 29th.
