Softball Recap: Haslett Vikings vs. Williamston Hornets
Haslett had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-14 to make it nine. They came up short against the Williamston Hornets, falling 18-2. The Vikings were not able to make up for their loss to the Hornets from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Haslett saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Wheeler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI. Eleni Skorna also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As for Williamston, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Williamston's side, Thea Fortin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Fortin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Williamston got a massive performance out of Katie Bush, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Bush a new career-high. Jaiden Griffith was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI.
Coincidentally, Haslett and Williamston will both be playing Okemos the next time they take the field. The Vikings will host the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Hornets will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on the 27th.
