Basketball Game Preview: Waverly Vikings vs. Crete Cardinals

Waverly is 2-8 against Crete since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Waverly Vikings will host the Crete Cardinals at 7:15 p.m.

Waverly saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 55-39 bruising from Gretna. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Isaac Clarke, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Ashton Heffelfinger, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Crete didn't have too much trouble with Maryville on Saturday as they won 53-37. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 36th in Nebraska, while the Spoofhounds are ranked 244th in Missouri), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Crete is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Waverly, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
