Basketball Recap: Fenton Coyle's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Union County over Tri

Union County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost to the Tri Titans on the road by a 54-40 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 67-42 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Union County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Fenton Coyle, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Coyle a new career-high in boards. Grady Coyle was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Union County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matches.

Union County's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Tri, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Union County has already played their next game, a 58-30 victory against Southwestern on the 25th. As for Tri, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-44 defeat against Edinburgh on the 25th.
