Recap: Redmond Mustangs vs. Newport - Bellevue Knights
If the Redmond Mustangs were riding high off their 61-38 takedown of the Skyline Spartans last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Redmond fell 57-45 to Newport - Bellevue on Friday. Redmond has not had much luck with Newport - Bellevue recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Redmond lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sofia Locati, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Isabel Schneider, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Newport - Bellevue got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Portia Polo out in front who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Polo is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Thompson, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Redmond has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Newport - Bellevue, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Redmond will take on Inglemoor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Washington (Inglemoor is ranked 115th, while Redmond is ranked 125th). As for Newport - Bellevue, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Issaquah at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
