Football Recap: Commerce Starts Season with Defeat on the Road + How To Watch

Commerce kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They received a blow as they fell 45-27 to the Wesleyan Wolves. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Wolves from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Commerce's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Layden Bryson, who rushed for 50 yards and one TD, and Jace Lyle, who rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown.

Maddox Gartland was a one-man wrecking crew For Wesleyan. as he rushed for 113 yards and a pair of scores, and also caught one TD. The dominant performance also gave Gartland a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Walker Kirkland was another key player, throwing for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Coming up, Commerce will challenge East Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wesleyan, they will square off against North Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
