The Menendez Falcons will square off against the Bolles Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Menendez has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Menendez lost 21-3 to Sandalwood on Thursday. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ava Carter was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bolles, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over Andrew Jackson on Thursday.
Maggie Stephens made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Leighton Dostie was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Leah Batts was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Menendez's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Bolles, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-14.
Bolles' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Menendez has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bolles, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Menendez keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Menendez took their win against Bolles in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-2 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
