Baseball Recap: Oroville Comes Up Short

Oroville had lost six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-17 to make it seven. They came up short against the Gridley Bulldogs, falling 10-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 16-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Gridley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games.

For Gridley's part, Tanner Abbott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Abbott has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Garrett Francis was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Eli Punzo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

While Oroville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
