Baseball Game Preview: Mira Mesa Marauders vs. El Capitan Vaqueros

The Mira Mesa Marauders will challenge the El Capitan Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. El Capitan took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mira Mesa, who comes in off a win.

Mira Mesa took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Valhalla 4-3.

Nathaniel Widelski was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Mira Mesa's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ziggy Avinion, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, El Capitan came up short against San Ysidro on Friday and fell 9-6. The Vaqueros have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Matthew Eckis made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Sal Ponce also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Even though they lost, El Capitan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

El Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Mira Mesa, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
