Basketball Recap: Lordsburg Takes a Loss

After flying high against Mescalero Apache last Saturday, Lordsburg came back down to earth. The Lordsburg Mavericks fell 57-46 to the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers on Thursday. If the Mavericks were looking for revenge after losing 50-38 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Lordsburg lost, don't look at Zeke De La O. Despite the final result, he posted 29 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 63% of Lordsburg's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Salazar, who scored 11 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Lordsburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Lordsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Lordsburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-31 win against Capitan on the 8th. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-24 victory against Loving on the 8th.
