After flying high against Greater Beckley Christian on Saturday, Tygarts Valley came back down to earth. Tygarts Valley fell just short of the Shady Spring Tigers by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Jaxon Drennen was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Drennen wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Armstrong, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Tygarts Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Shady Spring, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1-1.

Looking ahead, Tygarts Valley is taking a road trip to square off against Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Tygarts Valley's pitchers better be ready for this one: Highland has averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Shady Spring, they have already played their next matchup, a 7-4 loss against Woodrow Wilson on the 29th.
