Baseball Recap: Union Takes a Loss

Union had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it six. They came up short against the Randolph Southern Rebels, falling 17-5. If the Rockets were looking for revenge after losing 22-0 to the Rebels when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Randolph Southern, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-15. The matchup marked their most dominant win of the season.

For Randolph Southern's part, Trenton Jeffries made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Jeffries a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Randolph Southern is 2-1 when Jeffries posts two or more runs, but 1-14 otherwise.

In other batting news, Randolph Southern got a massive performance out of Trenton Gullett, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Gullett a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Allen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI.

Union has already played their next game (against GEO Next Generation), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Randolph Southern will be paying especially close attention to the Rockets' contest: after the Rockets face off against the Eagles, they'll take on Randolph Southern again at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
