Softball Recap: Colony Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Juneau-Douglas

Colony faced Juneau-Douglas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Knights put the hurt on the Crimson Bears with a sharp 10-2 victory. Considering the Knights have won 23 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaidence Browning made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since May 3rd.

In other batting news, Bonnie Schmidt was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. Alesha Crowther was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Colony's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 30-8-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Juneau-Douglas, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 18-14-1 record.

As of now, neither Colony nor the Crimson Bears have any future games scheduled.
