Softball Game Preview: Haines City Hornets vs. Davenport Broncos

Haines City is 0-5 against Davenport since April of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. Haines City will look to defend their home field against Davenport at 6:30 p.m. Haines City has given up an average of 10.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Two weeks ago, Haines City didn't have quite enough to beat Kathleen and fell 22-21. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (15), the Hornets still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, Davenport posted their closest victory since April 29, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lake Gibson, sneaking past 4-2.

Davenport's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jordyn Duran, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another was Riley Cresswell, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Haines City and nudges their season record down to 3-3. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Davenport, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
