Soccer Game Preview: Lewisburg vs. Southaven

The Lewisburg Patriots will head out to face off against the Southaven Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lewisburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.5 goals per game this season.

Lewisburg is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Oxford, who was ranked seventh at the time (Lewisburg was ranked second). While the 3-3 score might suggest a draw, it was Oxford who was credited with the win on Tuesday. Oxford got it done in the shootout by posting five goals to Lewisburg's four. The Patriots' loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.

Braxton Sharp and Ben Lageman scored all three of Lewisburg's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 21 goals.

Southaven fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Hernando on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The defeat continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost six in a row.

Southaven's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Lewisburg, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-2.

Lewisburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Southaven when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lewisburg since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
