South has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.7 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They lost 10-3 to the Derby Panthers. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

South saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yaden Montanez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Derby, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. South is set to take on their familiar foe Haysville Campus at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.7, the Colts 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Derby will square off against rival Valley Center on Tuesday.
