Baseball Recap: Tupelo Sets Scoring Season-High Against Madison Central

Tupelo fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Madison Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 18-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. One positive for the Golden Wave, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Tupelo got a good showing from Tanner Brannigan, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Tyler Johnson was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-5. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Tupelo is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brody Wilson, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Tupelo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Tupelo has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season. The victory (which was Madison Central's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Tupelo beat Madison Central by a score of 13-5 on Friday.
