Baseball Game Preview: Caldwell Chiefs vs. Millburn Millers

Caldwell is 2-8 against Millburn since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Chiefs will host the Millers at 4:00 p.m. Millburn took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Caldwell, who comes in off a win.

Caldwell came out on top against Rumson-Fair Haven on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Chiefs walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Bulldogs. That's two games straight that the Chiefs have won by exactly four runs.

Vin Brown tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

On the hitting side, Dante Placenti was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Nick Arvanites, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Seton Hall Prep hit Millburn with a five-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Millers came up short against the Pirates, falling 11-2. The Millers have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Millburn saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Asher Holland, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Caldwell is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Millburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
