Baseball Recap: Garrison Carrell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Loyd Star

Mize never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Loyd Star on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets a 14-0 shutout. With that win, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Holder Mcalpin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Garrison Carrell was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 contests. Walker Sullivan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Mize always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loyd Star only posted an OBP of .118.

Mize's record now sits at 13-5. As for Loyd Star, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Looking ahead, Mize will face off against Heidelberg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Loyd Star, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-3 victory against St. Andrew's Episcopal on the 20th.
