Basketball Game Preview: Crimson Cliffs Mustangs vs. Dixie Flyers

The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Dixie Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Dixie will be up against a hot Crimson Cliffs team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Crimson Cliffs took down Pine View 59-41 on Wednesday. The Mustangs pushed the score to 48-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Crimson Cliffs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drake Carroll led the charge by going 5 for 9 en route to 13 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Eaton, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

Meanwhile, Dixie had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 68-52 win over the Reds. Given the Flyers' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Reds are ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dixie has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Crimson Cliffs, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.

Crimson Cliffs came up short against Dixie when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 71-60. Can Crimson Cliffs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
