Softball Recap: Hampton Bays Comes Up Short

Hampton Bays extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-10. They lost 11-0 to the Miller Place Panthers. The shutout was out of character for the Baymen seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Emma Grunewald spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and eight unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks.

As for Miller Place, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Miller Place's side, not much got past Tiffany Clasen, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Hampton Bays off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Delaney Schleider, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Laney Vomero was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Hampton Bays is set to challenge their familiar foe Mount Sinai at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Miller Place will square off against rival Islip at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
