4A-1 Region III District 9 Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Trevor Brooks Delivers Best Effort of Season

Chapel Hill was led to victory by Trevor Brooks, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday. Brooks picked up a sack, forced two fumbles, and made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Palestine had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Brooks it was a similar story. Brooks picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss) the last time he and the Wildcats duked it out back in September of 2023.

Starling Posts Huge Game in 27-24 Win

Things weren't looking good for Henderson heading into Friday's tilt with Kilgore(they were ranked 87 places lower in Texas), but Jesstin Starling wasn't phased. Starling was unstoppable on Friday, rushing for 128 yards and two touchdowns. He is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.

Unfortunately for Kilgore, this isn't the first big game they've seen from Starling. When Starling last faced the Bulldogs back in October of 2023, he rushed for 123 yards while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.

Rickey Stewart Makes It Two for Chapel Hill

The second Chapel Hill player making an appearance here is Rickey Stewart, and for good reason. He rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Stewart must have Palestine's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Back in September of 2023 (the last time Stewart saw the Wildcats), he rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 46 receiving yards.

Anthony Newman Crosses Big Stat Threshold

Henderson (137) came into Friday's matchup against Kilgore (50) with a disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings, but Anthony Newman wasn't bothered. Newman made 12 total tackles and defended a pass in addition to snagging an interception, good enough for us to rate the performance as the best he's had all season long. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.5 total tackles per game.

On the year, Newman has averaged 5.5 total tackles per game.
