Recap: Westwood Panthers vs. Teague Lions
The Westwood Panthers waltzed into their contest on Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They put the hurt on Teague with a sharp 72-50 win. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while Teague is ranked 1028th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kavian Bryant out in front who scored 18 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tj Davis, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Teague's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Joshua Owens, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three blocks, and Jkybryen Harris who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owens has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kemauri Evans, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Westwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Teague, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.
Westwood will head out on the road to challenge Mexia at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mexia will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. Teague will take on Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
