Recap: Canterbury Cougars vs. Gateway Eagles

The Canterbury Cougars pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Gateway at home by a decisive 77-62 margin. While losing is never fun, Canterbury can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 602nd, while Gateway is ranked 129th).

Gateway was led to victory by Christopher Davis and Tavian Cook. Davis dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Cook dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cook has scored at least 25% of Gateway's points. Andrew Leopold was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Canterbury and nudges their season record down to 3-9. As for Gateway, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canterbury will take on Gateway Charter at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gateway Charter has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 603 points over their last eight games. Gateway won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Tampa Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. on January 6th. North Tampa Christian Academy will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
