Baseball Game Preview: GVCS Broadfording Lions vs. Grace Academy Knights

The GVCS Broadfording Lions will take on the Grace Academy Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

GVCS Broadfording took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Cumberland Valley Christian 11-5. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Blazers: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Grace Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Heritage Academy on Saturday, taking the game 6-2.

Austin Sweeney made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Grace Academy is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-6 otherwise. Sweeney was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, AJ Presley was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

GVCS Broadfording's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-13. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Grace Academy, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

GVCS Broadfording beat Grace Academy 7-4 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
