Baseball Game Preview: Newton Eagles vs. Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine

The Newton Eagles will venture away from home to take on Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Newton beat Effingham 6-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Carson Barthelme was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Barthelme was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Meinhart, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Armstrong, falling 9-3.

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Newton, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Newton took their victory against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
