Basketball Recap: Sheffield Comes Up Short

Sheffield lost against Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Sheffield Knights were dealt a 43-3 defeat at the hands of the Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering Phoenix. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Phoenix are ranked 90th).

Despite the loss, Sheffield saw an underclassman step up: freshman Chloe Robinson posted three points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Robinson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering was led to victory by London Dyson and Adrianna Toy. Dyson almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards, while Toy earned six points and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Akiyra Mattison, who had eight points.

Sheffield's defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Sheffield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 42-16 win against Hillcrest on the 17th. As for Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-19 victory against Kingsbury on the 17th.
