Softball Game Preview: Reardan Screaming Eagles vs. Newport Grizzlies

The Reardan Screaming Eagles will face off against the Newport Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Reardan: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Newport has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Reardan came up short against Chewelah on Friday, falling 19-9.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newport). Everything went their way against Davenport on Saturday as they made off with a 19-10 victory. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Gorillas recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Lili Hall made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Newport got a massive performance out of Bella Boyd, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases Boyd has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Parry, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Newport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 13.2.

Newport's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Reardan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
