Basketball Recap: Portal Falls Despite Big Games from Alyssa King and London Blackmon

After flying high against Claxton last Tuesday, Portal came back down to earth. The Portal Panthers took a 48-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Statesboro Blue Devils on Friday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Blue Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

London Blackmon and Alyssa King certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Blackmon dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while King posted eight points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Blackmon is now averaging an impressive 8.3 boards per game.

Kennedy Myers was a one-woman wrecking crew for Statesboro as she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Myers a new career-high in blocks (five). Zariyah Major was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Portal now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Statesboro, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5.

Portal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 37-10 win against Southeast Bulloch on the 21st. As for Statesboro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-38 loss against Telfair County on the 26th.
