Basketball Recap: Rio Mesa Takes a Loss

Rio Mesa lost against Viewpoint back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Rio Mesa Spartans took a 65-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Viewpoint Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Patriots are ranked 112th).

Rio Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Viewpoint, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.

Rio Mesa will take on Portola in a tournament on Thursday. Portola knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Rio Mesa likes a good challenge. As for Viewpoint, they will be taking part in a tournament against Schurr at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Viewpoint's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
