Softball Recap: Evansville Reitz Gets the Win

Evansville Reitz and South Spencer pushed the score to 20-0 the last time they played South Spencer, but on Wednesday defenses reigned supreme. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rebels a 4-0 shutout. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Ella Ellerbrook, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep South Spencer off the board. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Ellerbrook.

At the plate, Kinley Miller was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalee Polage, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Evansville Reitz hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Spencer struck out 13 times.

Evansville Reitz's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for South Spencer, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evansville Reitz will square off against Evansville North at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for South Spencer, they will challenge Gibson Southern at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
