Softball Recap: St. Croix Lutheran Crusaders vs. Concordia Academy Beacons
St. Croix Lutheran extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-5 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Concordia Academy Beacons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Beacons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 last Wednesday.
As for Concordia Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
For Concordia Academy's part, Ashlyn Croon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Croon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Concordia Academy got a massive performance out of Grace Madden, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Maria Mueller also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Croix Lutheran will challenge Mounds Park Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Concordia Academy, they will take on Roosevelt in a tournament on Friday.
