Basketball Recap: Merritt Academy Takes a Loss

If Merritt Academy was riding high fresh off their 63-25 takedown of Universal Learning Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Merritt Academy Mustangs fell just short of the Chavez Academy Aztec Eagles by a score of 43-40 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since January 30th.

Merritt Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Chavez Academy, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merritt Academy will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Canton Preparatory at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Merritt Academy is facing Canton Preparatory at the right time seeing as Canton Preparatory is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Chavez Academy also won't see the court for a while: their next matchup is against Trillium Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. One thing working in Trillium Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
