Softball Recap: Crab Orchard Triumphs

Crab Orchard won the last time they faced Benton and things went their way on Monday too. The Trojans came out on top against the Rangers by a score of 7-2. That's two games straight that the Trojans have won by exactly five runs.

Jada Burnett-Hatton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Crab Orchard's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Drew Besheres, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs Besheres has posted since back in March. Payton Cook was another, earning two RBI and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Crab Orchard and bumps their season record up to 21-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Benton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.

Crab Orchard will venture away from home to challenge Carrier Mills-Stonefort at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Benton, they will welcome Anna-Jonesboro at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rangers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 12.8 runs per game this season.
