Recap: Apollo Ridge Vikings vs. Serra Catholic Eagles
If The Apollo Ridge Vikings were riding high off their 48-20 takedown of the Yough Cougars last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Apollo Ridge received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 46-28 to Serra Catholic. Apollo Ridge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Serra Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Apollo Ridge's loss came despite strong showings from Alex Wurmb and Karter Schrock. Wurmb rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while Schrock rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Wurmb's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Serra Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than De'reon Washington, who picked up 298 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Quadir Stribling was another key contributor, throwing for 389 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Apollo Ridge's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.5 points per game. As for Serra Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-4.
Apollo Ridge will look to defend their home field on Friday against Burrell at 7:00 p.m. As for Serra Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Steel Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Steel Valley presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Serra Catholic in Pennsylvania (Steel Valley is ranked 172nd, while Serra Catholic is ranked 345th).
