Softball Game Preview: Rowan County Vikings vs. Raceland Rams

The Rowan County Vikings will take on the Raceland Rams at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rowan County is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

While Rowan County's win against Lawrence County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 2-1 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since April 8th.

Kassi Perkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lauryn Eastham was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Raceland unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 13-2 to Greenup County. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rams have suffered since April 21st.

Raceland's loss dropped their record down to 19-11. As for Rowan County, their win bumped their record up to 22-9.

Rowan County beat Raceland 7-4 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
